Embedded signing

Embedded signing shows the signing page inside your own website or app, usually in an iframe, so the signer signs without leaving your product.

In plain words

In the usual flow, a signer gets an email, clicks a link and lands on the e-signature vendor's site. With embedded signing, your product shows that page itself. The signer stays logged in to your app, signs in a frame on your page, and your app is told when they are done.

It matters for software that already has the person in front of it: a tenant portal, an onboarding flow, a checkout. Sending them off to their inbox breaks the flow.

An example

A property management platform lets tenants renew a lease from their dashboard. The tenant clicks Renew, the lease appears in a panel on the same page, they sign, and the dashboard updates to "Renewed" at once.

How it shows up in docuinked

docuinked supports embedded signing as part of its white-label release. You list the sites allowed to frame the signing page on your account. The signing page then loads in an iframe on those sites only, and it sends browser events to your page as the signer moves through the steps, so your app can react when they finish.

The signer still passes the same steps: the consumer disclosure when it is on, viewing, signing, decline and paper. The evidence is the same as for an emailed link.

Agents can't get live signing links. An agent key can only prepare and ask. Your own server, using a key you control, creates the link for the person in front of it. See platforms.

The market

Embedded signing is often priced as a premium. A competitor's summary of Docusign API pricing places it on the Enhanced plan. Dropbox Sign's help pages put it on API Standard. DocuSeal charges per completed document on Pro. Check each vendor's current terms.

Common confusions

Embedded is not white-label. Embedding is about where the page appears. White-label is about whose brand it shows. You can do one without the other.

Embedded doesn't skip identity. Your app knows who is logged in, but the signing record still needs its own evidence. Add an access code for documents that matter.

Common questions

Why won't the signing page load in my iframe?

The site that frames it must be on your account's allowed list, as a plain https origin. Any other site is refused, which stops strangers from framing your signers.

Should I trust the browser event that says signing finished?

Use it to update the screen. For anything that matters, such as starting work or releasing payment, confirm with a signed document.completed webhook on your server.

Can a signer sign inside a mobile app?

Yes, if your app shows your allowed web page in a web view. The signing page is built to work on any phone.
