Best free e-signature tools
For a few documents a month, BoldSign's free plan has the highest cap we found at 25 envelopes, while DocuSeal and Documenso suit people who want open code and docuinked suits people who want API and agent access at $0 during its beta.
How we picked
We read each vendor's pricing page on 2026-11-07. Where the page could not be read, we used a third party and say so. We looked at four things a free user hits first: how many documents a month, whether templates are included, whether the API works on the free plan, and whether a card is needed. Free plans change often, so check the vendor before you rely on a number here.

The tools in short
BoldSign. The largest free cap in our table, and branding on the free plan. It is part of a larger software company, which pays for that generosity. Its free sandbox for the API is watermarked and deleted after 14 days.
DocuSeal. Open source, with a free cloud plan and the option to run it yourself. The cloud free plan is for sending by hand. API use costs $0.20 per completed document plus a Pro seat.
Documenso. Also open source. The free cloud plan is small, at 5 documents a month, but paid plans are unlimited.
Zoho Sign and PandaDoc. Both give 5 a month. PandaDoc is a proposal and document tool first, so its free plan is a taste of a bigger product.
SignWell. The smallest free cap for sending by hand, but 25 free API documents a month on every plan if you leave a card on file.
docuinked. The first 5 completed documents are free, then Personal at $9 a month, with every feature: the web app, the REST API, the MCP server, webhooks and the sealed PDF. The beta cap is 100 live sends a day per account, 10 signers a document and 25 MB a PDF. Test keys are not held to the daily cap, and test documents are always free. See pricing.
Where others are better
- You need a known price for next year. Every other tool here publishes paid prices. We don't yet.
- You want audits on paper. Several of these claim SOC 2 or similar. We have none yet.
- You want to run it on your own server. DocuSeal and Documenso can. We can't.
- You want SMS codes or ID checks for signers. Some of these sell them as add-ons. Ours are coming.
- You want a known brand. A signer who has seen a name before may open the email faster.
Where docuinked fits
If you send a PDF now and then, any free plan above will do, and ours is one of them: upload, place fields, send. Where we differ is the same account works from code, from a workflow tool and from an AI agent. A live send from an agent waits for a named person to approve the exact draft. See agents and workflows.

Common questions
Is a free e-signature as valid as a paid one?
The price of the tool is not what the law looks at. In the US, the ESIGN Act says a signature can't be refused just because it is electronic. What matters is intent, consent and a good record. Read is an electronic signature legal.
What usually runs out first on a free plan?
The monthly document count, then templates. On most plans the API is not free at all, which matters if you want to automate later.
Will docuinked stay free after the beta?
We have not set prices, so we won't promise that. We will post any change on the pricing page first, and you can export every signed PDF and evidence record at any time.
Do my signers need an account on a free plan?
Not with docuinked, and not with most tools here. A signer opens the link from the email and signs on any phone or computer.
